MW4 Multiplayer Camos: Mercurial Drift to Orion Reforged

Three Multiplayer mastery tiers, one fixed order, and no way around it. Here is how the chain works and how to approach it without wasting time.

The chain

Divergence comes first. It is not a mastery camo, it is the final Completionist camo, and it unlocks once Harmonic Break is done on all 33 launch weapons. Each of those guns has to go through its 8 Military camos, 3 Special camos, Gold, Platinum and Harmonic Break to get there. That is the gate, and it is a much bigger job than the tiers that follow it.

Mercurial Drift is the first mastery tier, and the one most people stop at.

Polyatomic Reforged needs Mercurial Drift on that weapon. The name is a callback to the Polyatomic camos in Modern Warfare II and III.

Orion Reforged is the last tier and needs Polyatomic Reforged. Same callback, to Orion.

Every tier is per weapon. A gun you have never touched starts at the beginning, whatever you have done on other guns.

What the requirements actually are

Numbers circulated in launch week for each tier, generally in the shape of a multi-kill condition repeated a few hundred times. They do not agree across sources, and some guides say outright that the exact requirements were not published.

Check your own camo screen. It shows the real figure for your build of the game, and that is the only number worth planning around.

Planning it so it hurts less

Pick your weapons first. The chain is per weapon, so twelve guns is twelve chains. Decide which guns you actually want it on before you start, rather than spreading progress thin across the roster.

Finish a weapon before moving on. Partial progress on five guns is worth less than a finished chain on one.

Group the volume work. If a tier is mostly about repeating a kill condition, that is the part worth doing in bulk, including in a bot lobby, where engagements are constant.

Watch for changes. Activision has adjusted camo requirements post-launch before. If a tier suddenly looks different, that is why.
