What actually moves XP

XP comes from Multiplayer and DMZ. Within that, the things that matter are objective play, match completion, and simply being in more engagements per minute than a cautious game gives you.

The unglamorous truth is that finishing matches and playing objectives beats chasing a kill-per-minute number in most modes.

The levers worth pulling

Play objective modes and actually play them. Objective score is score, and in most Call of Duty titles it is better per minute than hunting kills in the same mode.

Finish your matches. Leaving early throws away the end-of-match component.

Use Double XP when you have it. Stack it with a session where you were going to play anyway, not with twenty minutes before bed.
